TASMAN ORIENT LINE RECOGNISES TOP STUDENTS
Tasman Orient Line has recognised the achievements of three of the top students of the New Zealand Maritime School’s Diploma in Shipping and Freight course, awarding them prizes and scholarships.
Richard Lundie, from Howick, achieved the highest results in the course overall this year and received a scholarship that includes work experience and full fees paid by Tasman Orient Line.
Ying Ren from Shanghai and Liza Nio from Jakarta both also received prizes.
Chief Executive of Tasman Orient Line, Ulrich Stelling, said the Diploma course offered by the Maritime School was producing outstanding graduates who were highly sought after by the industry.
Dave Hope, senior lecturer at the school, says the school’s courses are growing in popularity, in part due to the fact that they provide real career opportunities for people in the fast-growing logistics area.
“The fact that we work closely with the industry on course content means that we are producing students that are instantly employable in terms of their practical knowledge and their familiarity with all aspects of the industry. Once again we are facing a solid level of interests for next year’s courses.”
The Maritime School currently has 3000 students enrolled in 154 courses. Some 500 of the school’s students come from overseas.
