MARITIME SCHOOL CELEBRATES ITS SHIPPING, FREIGHT AND LOGISTICS CLASSES OF 2004

The New Zealand Maritime School last week held its first ever formal graduation ceremony in its 80 year history with a ceremony for those graduating from the school’s Shipping, Freight and Logistics programmes.

Of the 47 graduates from 2004, 14 Diploma in Shipping and Freight and 9 Graduate Certificate in Freight and Logistics students received their awards at the ceremony, held at the Mercure Hotel in Auckland on Monday March 21st.

The school’s Director Tim Wilson told the students that formal graduation ceremonies had been overlooked in the past because of the nature of the industry, with graduates tending to head straight into jobs.

“The practical nature of our industry and the work ethic we promote within the school means that we haven’t in the past stopped to celebrate the achievements of our students, but we now expect this to be an annual event.”

Highlight of the evening was the presentation of the top prizes sponsored by Pacific Forum Line and P&O Nedlloyd.

Arthur Beale of P & O Nedlloyd awarded its prize for meritorious achievement to Richard Lundie. Debbie Wilson of Pacific Forum Line presented the prize for the student who contributed the most to the class of 2004, Salomie Vaikai.
